Pelješac fire: Cook from Čapljina detained for suspected arson
A 21-year-old cook from Čapljina, identified as T. J., has been placed in investigative detention for up to 30 days by the Dubrovnik County Court. He is suspected of intentionally starting a fire on the Pelješac peninsula.
The incident was reported by a Polish tourist who witnessed the man using a gas lighter to ignite dry grass and low vegetation on the D414 state road between Brijesta and Luka Dubrava. The fire spread across approximately 2,500 square meters before being contained by local firefighters.
Police identified the suspect through surveillance camera footage, which helped determine the vehicle used. During questioning, the suspect reportedly confessed to the act. While not officially confirmed, unofficial reports suggest the motive may have been romantic disappointment.
