Serbia projected among Europe's fastest‑growing economies, cites IMF and Expo boost

The International Monetary Fund projects Serbia’s economy to grow by an average of 3.5% per year over the next five years, which could place the country among the five fastest‑growing economies in Europe by 2031. Prime Minister Đuro Macut said the forecast confirms macro‑economic stability and highlighted the 2027 Belgrade Expo as a key catalyst for further development. More than 140 nations have confirmed participation, and the government expects the Expo to stimulate tourism, infrastructure and investment. In the first five months of the year, Serbia welcomed over 1.7 million visitors, with foreign arrivals up nearly 10% and hotel nights in Belgrade rising 5.5%; the Danube region and new bridge projects are also being advanced.

The administration also promoted the citizen‑reporting portal “Ko si bre ti,” describing it as a useful tool to improve public‑service responsiveness. Separately, the Serbian People's Movement (NPS) called on the Šabac power utility to fully compensate households for damage caused by an over‑voltage event on 10 July, demanding clear procedures for claims and full reimbursement regardless of appliance age.
