Serbia detains two suspected Russian agents at Hungary border

The Serbian court ordered pre‑trial detention of two men identified as B. D. and Đ. S., who were captured on 12 June at the Serbia‑Hungary border while allegedly travelling to Germany. Their detention, initially for one month, was extended to 10 August.

German tabloid Bild reported the suspects were Russian operatives planning a sabotage attack on a German defence facility that supplies arms to Ukraine; explosives were found in their luggage. The German interior minister confirmed a thwarted explosive plot in Germany in mid‑June but gave no further details. Serbian special police carried out the arrest with intelligence supplied by German agencies and other partners. Serbia’s opposition party PSG has demanded clarification from the police, security agency and government, while Serbian and German authorities have not confirmed the allegations.

No comment was received from Serbian police, the Serbian prosecutor’s office, German police or Europol.
