Serbian Orthodox Church celebrates Saint Dalmat, patron of peace and unity

The Serbian Orthodox Church commemorates Saint Dalmat, a former high‑ranking military officer who served under Emperor Theodosius the Great. Renouncing worldly life, Dalmat and his son Faust entered monasticism at the monastery of Saint Isaac near Constantinople, where they were known for extreme fasting—according to tradition, Dalmat once fasted for forty days without food.

Dalmat is remembered as a staunch defender of Orthodox doctrine, taking part in the defense against Nestorian heresy at the Third Ecumenical Council in Ephesus. Today, believers attend church services, light candles, and pray to Dalmat and his son for peace, love, and family harmony.

The celebration is observed throughout Serbia, with faithful gathering in churches to seek the saints' intercession for the well‑being of their families.
