Serbian parliamentarians say they will rejoin the Media Council if guarantees are secured

Four members of Serbia's Council for Media (REM) – Rodoljub Šabić, Mileva Malešević, Ira Prodanov Krajišnik and Dubravka Valić Nedeljković – resigned in December 2023. The parliamentary committee that called them to assume their functions noted that their resignations had not been formally verified, allowing the members to submit statements of acceptance.

Valić Nedeljković said the group would return to the council only if two conditions are met: the ninth council seat would be filled after national council elections, ensuring legitimacy, and the candidate Bodžoni of the Hungarian minority would not appear on the reconciliation list. The committee also agreed that the newly formed council should draft a new statute for the REM.

The dispute arises from a prior repeated election for the ninth seat after the Assembly failed to choose the originally proposed Bosniak and Albanian candidates in November 2022, prompting concerns about transparency and minority representation.
