Serbian pension fund clarifies disability pension documentation rules

The Republic Fund for Pension and Disability Insurance (Fond PIO) in Serbia requires a medical expert assessment that confirms a total loss of work capacity before granting a disability pension. Applicants must also meet legal insurance‑tenure conditions: at least five years of paid contributions for disabilities arising from illness or non‑work injuries, while work‑related injuries and professional diseases waive the tenure requirement but demand proof of the incident.

Reduced thresholds apply to younger claimants: those up to 20 years old need one year of tenure, up to 25 years need two years, and up to 30 years need three years. Incomplete documentation is cited as a common cause of delayed decisions or denied claims, underscoring the importance of gathering complete medical and administrative records ahead of filing.
