Serbian pension fund launches new package for over 1 million retirees
On June 11, the Republic Pension Fund (PIO) held public tribunes in Aleksandrovac and Kruševac, attended by about 800 pensioners. Director Relja Ognjenović presented a comprehensive package of measures aimed at more than one million citizens, including a pension increase, reduced drug prices, and new benefits for veterans and socially vulnerable groups. Local officials highlighted free transport in Kruševac and upgraded social spaces for seniors.
A separate guide explains Serbia’s rules on early retirement: each month missing the statutory age of 65 reduces the pension by 0.34 %, up to a maximum reduction of 20.4 %. Options to avoid permanent penalties include buying missing contribution periods, receiving compensation from the National Employment Service, or qualifying under special categories such as miners, police, and military personnel, who may retire earlier with reduced penalties.
