Serbian police chief launches intensive search for missing body in Senjak murder case

Police chief Dragan Vasiljević said all persons implicated in the Senjak shooting will be held accountable and that no one is untouchable. A large‑scale operation involving the Serbian army, the Special Anti‑Terrorist Unit, gendarmerie and the Belgrade Criminal Police Directorate is searching the area around Jarkovac Lake near Belgrade for the missing body of Aleksandar Nešović.

Investigators have uncovered a Hyundai car with acid, gloves and a hood bearing red stains believed to be blood. They suspect Nešović was killed in the Senjak "27" restaurant, allegedly by Saša Vuković with possible involvement of former police chief Veselin Milić and three body‑guard officers in disposing of evidence. Ten suspects have been questioned; nine are detained and one is under house arrest. The case was first classified as an attempted homicide and later upgraded to a severe homicide.

The investigation has triggered political repercussions. Retired organized‑crime‑fighting official Predrag Simonović suggested interior minister Ivica Dačić might resign, while President Aleksandar Vučić announced plans for a law to dismiss any police officer or soldier found protecting oligarchs or criminals. The Senjak case highlights systemic issues within Serbia’s security services.
