Serbian police thwart drone‑delivered pistol scheme at Niš prison

Police in Niš stopped a 49‑year‑old suspect after gathering operational intelligence. During the arrest officers recovered a drone with its remote controller, a pistol loaded with eight rounds, and a taxi used to transport the suspect. The man is being held for up to 48 hours and will be presented to a higher public prosecutor on charges of illegal production, possession, transport and trafficking of weapons and explosive materials.

Investigators say the plan was to deliver the firearm to an inmate from Novopazarac who is serving a sentence at the Kazneno‑popravni zavod in Niš. The intended next steps were to seize a prison guard, take him hostage and use the weapon to facilitate an escape. The police investigation continues to determine whether additional participants were involved.
