Serbian Police Warn of Traffic‑Police Phishing SMS Scams

The Ministry of Interior of Serbia warned citizens that fraudulent SMS and iMessage messages are being sent that impersonate the Traffic Police. The messages claim the recipient must view alleged evidence of traffic violations and pay fines through internet links. The ministry stressed that it never issues traffic‑violation notifications or payment requests via SMS or iMessage; official notices are sent only by regular mail or through the eUprava portal.

The scams often originate from foreign‑registered numbers, and the police noted earlier arrests of Chinese nationals who used mass‑SMS devices to distribute similar phishing messages from Serbian territory. Citizens are advised to delete any suspicious messages, avoid clicking on links, and report them via the national cyber‑crime reporting platform “Sajber straža” (sajberstraza.gov.rs). The ministry said it will continue to pursue and prosecute individuals who misuse the name of state institutions for fraud.
