Serbian Power Grid Remains Stable Despite Low Danube Water Levels

Dušan Živković, chief executive of Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS), told Reuters that electricity supply in Serbia will stay stable despite adverse hydrological conditions on the Danube. The country’s largest hydroelectric plant, Đerdap 1, is currently generating only about one‑third of its average daily output – roughly 5,000 MW – because the river’s water level is at an exceptionally low point. EPS also reported reduced output at coal‑fired plants in Kostolac, where limited water hampers cooling systems.

Živković warned of upcoming challenges but affirmed that the utility can maintain reliable delivery even if the Danube flow falls to the estimated biological minimum of 1,500 m³ per second in early August. The statement was made on 25 July 2026.
