Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić Announces Plan to Resign

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said he will soon submit his resignation amid intense anti‑government protests. He indicated that, because the constitution bars a third presidential term, he may seek to run for prime minister after stepping down. Vučić added that parliamentary elections will be called within three to four months, not in July or August, and that a party rally is scheduled for 27 June to present the election list and programme.

The announcement follows a wave of student demonstrations triggered by a tragic roof collapse at Novi Sad’s railway station in early November, which left 16 dead and sparked nationwide criticism of the government.
