Serbian President Vučić Sets September Deadline for Citizens' Cash Aid
President Aleksandar Vučić announced that a new state‑aid package worth over €600 million will be paid to Serbian citizens in September. The one‑off cash transfers target pensioners, war veterans, socially vulnerable groups and all adults, with payments expected between 10 and 15 September and the possibility of an earlier start.
Vučić detailed the pensioner component: 35 000 dinars for roughly 459 000 lowest‑income retirees, 27 500 dinars for about 548 000 mid‑income retirees and 20 000 dinars for roughly 655 000 higher‑income retirees. He stressed that the funds have been accumulated over 15 years through action funds, not from the sale of state assets, and defended the government’s fiscal stance, noting inflation at 2.7 %, public debt at 43 % of GDP and a deficit around 3 %.
The president also emphasized that the aid is a regular policy measure, unrelated to upcoming elections, and highlighted Serbia’s stable dinar exchange rate and responsible budget management.
