Serbian President Vucic Rejects Invitation to Montenegro's 20th Independence Celebration
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said he received an invitation to attend the "grandiose" festivities marking Montenegro's 20th anniversary of independence. He announced he will not participate, stating that attending would be a source of shame and that he would "spit on himself and my people" rather than join the event.
Vucic criticized the celebration as a display of Montenegro's separation from Serbia and warned that the EU’s stance on the use of the Serbian language in Montenegro is inconsistent. He also noted that international performers such as Ricky Martin were expected to appear at the festivities, but he wishes Montenegro "all the best" while urging Serbia to continue its own economic development.
