Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić Announces pension increase, state aid rollout and infrastructure spending

President Aleksandar Vučić said Serbia will raise the basic pension from 204 euros to “significantly over 500 euros” and highlighted that average wages have risen from 330 euros to about 1 050 euros as the country’s GDP grew from €32 billion to nearly €100 billion.

He also confirmed that a state‑aid package worth more than €600 million will be paid to roughly three million citizens, with pensioners receiving one‑off payments of 35 000, 27 500 or 20 000 dinars depending on income. The aid, funded from the Investment Fund, is slated to start in early September and includes additional support for low‑income families, children’s allowances and veterans.

During a visit to Lapovo, Vučić announced a €3.2 million state‑financed water‑works and sewage project, as well as a road linking Kijevo and Dobrovoljica funded with Azerbaijani cooperation. He also mentioned the imminent opening of a 5‑6 km segment of a bypass around Kragujevac.

In a separate address, Vučić criticised certain university professors, calling them “parasites on state payrolls.”

A bridge over the Velika Morava, costing €26 million, is expected to be completed within 24 months, further boosting regional transport infrastructure.
