Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said Milan Radoiç is not being pursued criminally, arguing that the Interpol red notice issued against him stems from the Kosovo issue rather than any crime. Radoiç took responsibility for the armed attack on Kosovo Police in Banjske, Zveçan on 24 September 2023 that killed officer Afrim Bunjaku and resulted in a firefight that also claimed three Serbian attackers.

Despite the red notice, Radoiç remains free in Serbia, registered in Belgrade, and Serbian authorities have not extradited him. The European Union and the United States have urged Belgrade to arrest and prosecute those responsible for the Banjske attack, while Kosovo continues to seek his surrender through Interpol.

At a public rally in Belgrade on 27 June, Vučić defended Radoiç and his business associate Zvonko Veselinović, who are also subject to U.S. sanctions. Vučić denied that members of the Serbian Gendarmerie protect them, stating he has no information on such protection.

Legal experts and opposition figures criticize Vučić’s remarks as undermining the rule of law and jeopardising Serbia’s EU accession ambitions.
