Serbian Prosecutor's Office to Prosecute Participants in Alleged Sound Cannon Protest

Belgrade's Higher Public Prosecutor's Office (VJT) announced it has gathered evidence that a sound‑cannon simulation during the March 15, 2023 protest at the University of Belgrade was pre‑planned. The office intends to charge a large number of people for offences against state security and the constitutional order, including possible incitement to violent change.

VJT plans to prosecute four groups: the organizers of the meeting, individuals who directed the crowd, media figures who promoted the event on social networks, and those who arranged medical examinations for protestors after the incident. Deputy chief prosecutor Miodrag Marković discussed the case on a public broadcast, alleging that the alleged sound‑cannon use was a fabricated scenario.

Political commentator Dragoljub Kojčić warned, "If those responsible are not punished, everything will remain a dead letter on paper!" and described the case as a "mass lie" used to undermine Serbia’s authorities. Analyst Srbislav Filipović added, "Those who broke the law must answer," urging that all involved parties be held accountable. Centre for National Policy representative Ljubomir Đurić highlighted deep public mistrust in institutions and called for swift investigative action.
