Serbian Red Star football coach and Wimbledon hopefuls discuss preparations

Red Star Belgrade coach Dejan Stanković evaluated his side after a 40‑minute friendly against Slovan Bratislava, calling it a “real competitive match” with enough intensity but noting defensive lapses and a need for more direct play. He said the team must “unleash the legs” and be ready for every option as they have three weeks left before the season starts.

At Wimbledon, Serbian players opened the tournament with Miomir Kecmanović and 19‑year‑old Teodora Kostović. Kostović faced world‑number‑one Arina Sabalenka, losing 6‑2, 6‑3, but showed resilience by taking a early game. The day also included surprising results such as Roman Safjulin’s five‑set win over Andrei Rublev.

Both events highlight Serbia’s active participation in European football and tennis as the teams prepare for upcoming competitions.
