Serbian REM Media Council to Appoint New President Before August
The Council of the Serbian Regulatory Body for Electronic Media (REM) has not yet elected a president. At its constitutive meeting, the vote for president was tied between Miloš Garić and Mileva Malešić, and no deputy was chosen. Chairwoman Dubravka Valić Nedeljković said consultations on the leadership continue and a new session will be scheduled before 1 August so the council can operate at full capacity.
Council member Miloš Garić indicated that a decision is expected at the July 29 meeting, stressing the need for an agreement to enable the council to make operational decisions. He noted his own nomination, the two‑year term length, and called for cooperation despite political criticism and accusations that some members have returned to the council under pressure.
The council aims to resolve the leadership dispute promptly to resume its regulatory functions over Serbia’s electronic media landscape.
