Serbian trade unions propose pension reform

The Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Serbia has submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Labour to reform pension deductions for those opting for early retirement.

Under the current system, early retirees face a monthly deduction of 0.34 percent, which can result in a total reduction of benefits by up to 20.4 percent. The union proposes reducing this monthly deduction to 0.15 percent.

Furthermore, the proposal seeks to end lifelong penalties by stipulating that all deductions must cease once the individual reaches the age of 65. The initiative includes three legislative amendments, specifically targeting the Law on Pension and Disability Insurance, to ensure a fairer system for those forced into retirement before reaching the standard old-age threshold.
