Serbian University Clinical Center Niš adds organ transplants, mobile heart screenings

The University Clinical Center Niš (UKC Niš) performed its fifth living‑donor kidney transplant in six months, a mother donating to her 22‑year‑old daughter. Doctors highlighted the procedure as a step toward Serbia’s entry into the Eurotransplant network and the development of deceased‑donor transplantation, which they say is essential for faster organ access.

At the same time, UKC Niš and the Institute "Niška Banja" continued a large‑scale mobile cardiology campaign in rural areas, recently visiting the village of Gornja Vrežina. The teams provided on‑site cardiac examinations, diagnostics and immediate treatment recommendations, drawing long queues and underscoring the public need for preventive care. Officials noted that roughly 100,000 Serbians suffer from heart‑failure, making early detection a national health priority.
