Serbian victims of Croatia's 1995 'Oluja' operation still lack justice

The Documentation‑Informative Center "Veritas" reports that more than 220,000 Krajina Serbs were affected by Croatia's 1995 military‑police operation "Oluja". According to its updated register, 1,904 Serbs were killed or remain missing, including 1,250 civilians, 566 women and ten children. The centre says most of the dead were civilians and women, many over 60 years old.

Veritas criticises the lack of accountability: only two individuals – Boža Bačelić and Rajko Krichković – have been convicted for war crimes, while the Appeals Chamber of the Hague Tribunal overturned the original verdict against Croatian generals Anto Gotovina and Mladen Markac. The International Court of Justice in 2015 classified "Oluja" as an act of ethnic cleansing. The centre calls the EU's response "tepid and delayed" and urges justice ahead of the 31st anniversary of the operation.
