Serbia's Alimony Fund pays 63 million dinars to 959 children

The Serbian Alimony Fund has completed its first year of operation, providing financial support to children when a parent is unable or unwilling to pay court-ordered child support. According to the Ministry for Care of Family and Demography, the fund has issued 643 decisions, resulting in payments to 959 children.

In total, more than 63 million dinars were disbursed during this initial period. The fund serves as a budgetary mechanism to ensure children receive necessary maintenance while the state pursues compulsory collection from debtors who may lack immediate assets or require lengthy legal processes for asset recovery.

The Ministry stated that the establishment of this fund through the Law on Exercising Rights from the Alimony Fund allows Serbia to fulfill its obligations under Article 27 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which guarantees a child's right to a standard of living adequate for their development.
