Serbia's cities record high PM10 pollution days in 2025

The 2025 air‑quality analysis released by the Regulatorni institut za obnovljivu energiju i životnu sredinu (RERI) shows that many Serbian towns exceeded the legal limit for PM10 particles on a large number of days. Novi Pazar recorded the highest number with 127 days of excess, followed by Valjevo and Prokuplje at 120 days each, Leskovac with 110 days, Kruševac 105, Vranje 98 and Užice 91.

The report warns that air‑pollution‑related premature deaths in Serbia total almost 10 000 each year. Even if all planned mitigation measures for 2022‑2030 were fully implemented, official projections still estimate 7 373 deaths in 2030, 39 % above the EU 2018 level. PM2.5 concentrations also exceeded limits on an average of 104 days in 2025, and the country still lacks a daily legal limit for these finer particles, limiting regulatory enforcement.
