Serbia's foreign exchange reserves reach record 30.8 billion euros

The National Bank of Serbia (NBS) reported that gross foreign exchange reserves reached a record 30.80 billion euros at the end of August 2026. This represents an increase of 303.5 million euros compared to the end of July.

Net foreign exchange reserves also reached a record level of 26.32 billion euros, up 341.4 million euros from July. These reserves provide coverage for 163.9 percent of the M1 money supply and are sufficient to cover seven months of imports for goods and services, which is more than double the established adequacy standard.

Key drivers of the reserve levels included NBS interventions in the domestic foreign exchange market through the purchase of 135 million euros in foreign currency, as well as management of reserves and donations totaling 117.6 million euros. Outflows due to the settlement of state foreign currency obligations totaled 710.4 million euros. Additionally, gold reserves reached a record 54.99 tons, valued at 6.95 billion euros, bolstered by a 13.3 percent increase in gold prices in US dollars.

In North Macedonia, official foreign exchange reserves exceeded 5.1 billion euros at the end of August, marking an increase of 90.2 million euros from the previous month.
