Bosnia enforces traffic changes for Ajvatovica festival and hosts youth activities

The Federal Ministry of Transport and Communications approved a temporary traffic regime on the main roads M‑5 and M‑16 for the end‑stage celebrations of the Saint Ivo and the 516th Ajvatovica days in late June 2026. On 23 June (10:00‑22:00) and 24 June (06:00‑16:00) heavy‑truck traffic on the Jajce‑Podmilačje‑Banja Luka corridor (M‑16) will be halted and vehicles redirected via alternative routes such as Jajce‑Mrkonjić Grad‑Banja Luka, Jajce‑Šipovo‑Kupres and Travnik‑Kneževo‑Banja Luka. A further closure on 27 June (17:30‑18:30) affects the intersection of 14 Septembar and 770 Slavne Brdske Brigade in the Donji Vakuf area for all vehicle types. Explosive and oversized‑load transport is banned in Central Bosnia Canton from 00:00 23 June to 23:59 24 June and again from 00:00 27 June to 23:59 28 June.

During the same weekend, members of the Youth Networks from Sanski Most and Prijedor took part in the Ajvatovica 2026 program. They visited the historic town of Travnik, spent the night at the Elči Ibrahim‑paša madrasa, and then joined the Ajvatovica camp in Prusac, representing the Bihać muftijstvo. The participants competed in a range of sports – shooting, horse riding, long jump, volleyball, rope‑pulling and sack‑racing – earning a third‑place finish in the rope‑pulling contest.

Both the traffic adjustments and the youth activities aim to ensure safe, orderly celebrations while encouraging community involvement throughout the festival period.
