Embassy of BiH in Belgrade suspends consular services
The Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Belgrade has suspended key consular services, including visa applications, travel document issuance, and temporary residence approvals. The Embassy stated that Foreign Minister Elmedin Konaković enabled this disruption by calling only employees of Serbian nationality to consultations in Sarajevo, an act the Embassy described as discriminatory segregation and a violation of human dignity.
The suspension has halted the collection of biometric data, as the only remaining civil servant authorized for this task is currently absent. The Embassy warned that this move threatens strategic infrastructure and energy projects managed by Autoputevi Republike Srpske and JP Autoceste FBiH, which rely on foreign workers.
In response, Željka Cvijanović, a member of the Presidency of BiH, demanded that the consular department be made operational by October 4. Meanwhile, at a Berlin Process meeting in Montenegro, Konaković addressed other regional issues, including institutional pressure from the Republika Srpska police on the Srebrenica Memorial Center and the geopolitical influence of Russia in the Balkans.
