Serbia's Media Regulator REM Holds Constitutive Session to Elect New Chairman

The Regulatory Body for Electronic Media (REM) in Serbia convened a constitutive session on 20 July 2026 at 11:00 to elect its president and deputy. Eight voting members—Miloš Garić, Stevica Smederevac, Milan Petković, Snežana Miljković, and four who had previously submitted resignations (Dubravka Valić Nedeljković, Ira Prodanov Krajišnik, Mileva Malešić, Rodoljub Šabić)—participated after the parliament ruled the resignations legally ineffective. The council, which counts nine seats, still lacks a minority representative.

Spokesperson Olivera Zekić used the meeting to press TV Informer and other broadcasters over a flood of complaints, noting that 90% of the 360 pending cases relate to Informer. She warned that REM faces bankruptcy, citing Studio B’s arrears of 27 million dinars, and urged members to resolve outstanding debts. Zekić also called for harmonising the existing statute with three new media laws before a public hearing on draft regulations can proceed.
