Serdar Denktaş predicts election delay to January

Serdar Denktaş, leader of the TAM Party, has suggested that the scheduled election date of December 6 may be pushed to January. He argues that the current timeline is legally and calendarically unfeasible, noting that an early election would result in a 19-day reduction in the terms of current local officials, which could face legal challenges.

Denktaş also criticized the proposed changes to the election law and the implementation of a mixed voting system, stating that such methods weaken party programs by prioritizing individual relationships over collective platforms. He suggested that necessary electoral reforms should be discussed inclusively after the elections rather than immediately before them.

Additionally, Denktaş proposed a new structural model for local governance. His plan includes a narrow-district system where village headmen (muhtars) would serve as municipal council members and mayors would serve as members of the Republican Assembly, aiming to bring regional issues more directly to the national legislature.
