Serena Williams hints at possible singles comeback while returning to doubles
Serena Williams, the 44‑year‑old American tennis legend, will compete in the women's doubles at the Queens tournament in London, partnering with 19‑year‑old Canadian Victoria Mboko. The match marks her first competitive appearance since withdrawing after the 2022 US Open.
Williams said she does not rule out a return to singles competition, but it is not in her immediate plans. She told reporters, “I can’t say no. I would probably need to train a bit more if I want to play singles, so we’ll see if I get there. If not, that’s not my path right now.” She emphasized that she is playing without pressure to win, focusing on enjoying the experience.
Mboko praised Williams’s physical readiness, noting her “fantastic racket swing, very clean shots, and great fitness.” Williams added that she has “nothing to prove and nothing to lose,” reflecting on her 23 Grand Slam singles titles and 14 Grand Slam doubles titles earned alongside her sister Venus.
