Serena Williams makes doubles comeback at London and Berlin tournaments

44‑year‑old Serena Williams, the 23‑time Grand Slam singles champion who also won 16 doubles Grand Slam titles, announced a return to professional tennis in doubles. She will compete at the HSBC Championships at London's Queen’s Club alongside Canadian partner Victoria Mboko, having received a wildcard for the event. The pair are scheduled to play their first match in the first round against the third‑seeded Nicole Melichar‑Martinez and Erin Routliffe.

Williams is also entered in the Berlin Open (LTTC Rot‑Weiß) which runs from 13‑21 June, where she will play doubles; her partner for the Berlin event has not yet been disclosed. Tournament director Markus Zoecke highlighted the rarity of seeing Williams on a German court. The Berlin draw includes nine of the world’s top ten players, such as world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka. Williams’ comeback is expected to lead to a potential Wimbledon appearance later in the season.
