Serena Williams receives Wimbledon 2026 wildcard for singles

Serena Williams, the 44‑year‑old former world No. 1 and 23‑time Grand Slam singles champion, has been granted a wildcard to compete in the ladies' singles at the 2026 Wimbledon Championships. It will be her first singles appearance since the 2022 US Open. The tournament also announced that she and her sister Venus Williams will partner in the women's doubles, both receiving wildcards for that event as well.

Venus Williams, now 46, also earned a wildcard to play singles and doubles at Wimbledon, aiming to test herself again despite recent injuries and a decline from her peak form. In an interview she cited Roger Federer’s example of learning from failure and expressed her determination to keep pursuing her goals on and off the court. The sisters previously played together at Queen’s and the Berlin Open, where they lost in their opening matches.

The wildcard announcements were made by Wimbledon officials in London, confirming that both Williams sisters will return to the All England Club for the prestigious grass‑court tournament.
