Serena Williams returns to professional tennis, cites daughters as motivation

Serena Williams, the 23‑time Grand Slam singles champion, announced a comeback to professional tennis, beginning with the HSBC Championships in London. She will compete in doubles alongside Canadian rising star Victoria Mboko and has also been entered for the upcoming event in Berlin.

Williams said she no longer plays to win titles; instead, she wants her daughters, Olympia and Adira, to see her on the court and create lasting memories. "I don’t need to win," she told reporters, adding that the pressure of chasing championships is gone. While she has not committed to a singles return, she emphasized that her focus is on enjoying the sport and assessing her body’s response.

The comeback marks her first professional appearance since the 2022 US Open, and she highlighted that the motivation behind this return is personal rather than competitive.
