Serena Williams returns to Wimbledon singles as wildcard

Serena Williams, 44, will compete in the Wimbledon singles draw after a four‑year break from professional play. The former 23‑time Grand Slam champion and seven‑time Wimbledon singles winner received a wildcard from the All England Lawn Tennis Club and is set to start the tournament on June 29. She will also team up with her sister Venus in the doubles event.

Williams' longtime coach Rick Macci said she is unlikely to win the title but can still challenge top‑ten opponents, noting the different footwork required on grass. The veteran player emphasized she has nothing to prove and is returning for the experience and to let her children watch her compete. Her participation adds a high‑profile storyline to this year's championships.
