Serena Williams Secures Wimbledon Wild Card for 2026 Comeback

Four‑time Wimbledon champion Serena Williams, 44, accepted a wildcard to play both singles and doubles at Wimbledon 2026, marking her first singles appearance at the Grand Slam since the 2022 US Open. She announced the decision hours before the deadline, saying she was still unsure but wanted to “enjoy” the opportunity. Williams will open the singles draw against Australian Maya Joint and will partner with sister Venus in the doubles event.

Ahead of the tournament, Williams criticised the International Tennis Integrity Agency’s anti‑doping protocol, calling it “grueling” and “unprofessional” and saying the rules interfere with her family life.

For the event she rented a seven‑storey, six‑bedroom West Kensington villa through Airbnb at a cost of £40,000 per week, sharing images of a roof terrace, freestanding bathtub and crystal chandeliers, which she described as a place of “peace” during the week.

Novak Djokovic praised the comeback, describing it as “inspiring and epic,” while other players also noted the significance of her return to the sport.
