SERGAS announces medical recruitment drives for Ourense emergency services

The Galician Health Service (SERGAS) has announced two separate initiatives to address medical staffing in the Ourense province.

First, a transfer competition will allow permanent staff to apply for 13 existing emergency physician positions within Ourense, including 10 at the Complexo Hospitalario Universitario de Ourense (CHUO), two at the Hospital Público de Verín, and one at Valdeorras. This provincial call is part of a larger regional process offering 132 emergency physician positions across Galicia, including areas such as Vigo, Santiago, and Lugo.

Second, the Xunta de Galicia has launched a specific merit-based competition to fill 25 emergency physician vacancies at the CHUO. These positions are classified as having “difficult coverage” due to a structural shortage where only half of the required 50-person staff is currently occupied. The recruitment process, which includes free access, internal promotion, and disability quotas, aims to ensure healthcare continuity in the priority service. Registration for these 25 positions is open from August 26 to September 30, 2026.
