Sergeant Fannie Nkosi resigns from SAPS amid criminal charges
Sergeant Fannie Nkosi, formerly of the Gauteng Organised Crime Unit, has resigned from the South African Police Service (SAPS). The resignation, confirmed by SAPS spokesperson Athlenda Mathe, follows a series of criminal charges and legal proceedings.
Nkosi faces multiple allegations, including theft, fraud, and defeating the ends of justice. His legal troubles intensified following a raid on his Pretoria North residence, where authorities reportedly seized ammunition, cash, a grenade, and original police dockets. He is also accused of fraudulently obtaining a police docket by posing as a senior officer.
The resignation occurs ahead of a scheduled internal disciplinary hearing and follows a court matter that was postponed to 5 November 2026. Nkosi remains in custody after being denied bail. His case has drawn significant attention due to his involvement in the Madlanga Commission’s investigation into alleged dealings between police officials and underworld figures.
