Sergei Lavrov blames US for prolonging Ukraine war

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has accused the United States of responsibility for the ongoing war in Ukraine, claiming a significant opportunity for peace was missed over the past year. Lavrov asserted that if the U.S. had not deviated from the Anchorage agreements and if Europe had not prolonged them, the conflict could have ended a year ago.

These claims contrast sharply with accounts from U.S. officials regarding the August 2025 Anchorage summit. While some Russian officials have suggested that Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin reached agreements to end the war, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that no such agreements regarding Ukraine were made. Rubio noted the summit concluded without an agreement because Russia's proposal for Ukraine was deemed unacceptable.
