The rumors follow investigative reports by Proekt, which utilized leaked flight records to show that Lavrov and his partner, Svetlana Polyakova, frequently vacationed in Croatia and Turkey alongside Lyubov Kabaeva, the mother of Vladimir Putin’s partner, Alina Kabaeva. These trips were reportedly conducted on luxury private jets funded by prominent business figures, highlighting the close ties between Russian officials and oligarchs.

Kremlin-linked sources suggest that Lavrov’s departure could be a logical step, noting that the Foreign Ministry has become sidelined during international negotiations concerning Ukraine and has transitioned into a “service structure” for the Kremlin rather than an agency that generates independent policy.
