Sergei Stanishev criticizes Radev Cabinet over lack of reforms

Former Prime Minister and BSP Executive Bureau member Sergei Stanishev has criticized the first 100 days of the Radev Cabinet, stating that the government has failed to meet the high expectations it created. He noted a lack of bold action regarding necessary reforms.

Stanishev identified the 2026 budget, which was adopted with significant delay, as the first major test for the administration. While acknowledging that the government presented a realistic view of the country's financial state, he criticized the lack of courage in limiting the budget deficit. He warned that a consistent 3% deficit represents new debt that must be serviced annually, noting that income growth cannot be perpetually funded through debt.

He emphasized that the government must balance fiscal responsibility with active social policies, directing support toward the elderly, youth, and families. Stanishev cautioned that past politicians have often sought social stability through uncovered spending and increasing state obligations to appease voters.
