Sergej Barbarez discusses Bosnia and Herzegovina national team culture

Sergej Barbarez, the head coach of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national football team, discussed his career and the team's direction in a recent podcast interview. Barbarez reflected on his early life in Germany, noting the financial hardships he faced during his initial years there, including periods where his salary was less than his rent.

Regarding the national team, Barbarez stated that his coaching staff has focused on restoring the ‘culture of the national team’ by prioritizing player character and a sense of belonging. He emphasized that while losses may occur, maintaining the players' pride and connection to the national jersey is essential.

Addressing the upcoming departure of long-time captain Edin Džeko from international play, Barbarez described it as a natural conclusion to a great era rather than a tragedy. He expressed a desire for Džeko to remain involved with the national team in a new capacity following his retirement from playing.
