Hull City manager Sergej Jakirović defends tactics after Brentford draw
Hull City manager Sergej Jakirović has defended his tactical decisions and squad selection following a 1-1 draw against Brentford in the eighth round of the Premier League. Despite the result, which leaves Hull in tenth place with 10 points, Jakirović addressed recent criticisms regarding his lineup and the team's recent five-match winless streak.
In an interview with Sky Sports, Jakirović emphasized his commitment to his players, specifically defending captain Lewie Coyle against fan criticism. He noted that his decisions are based on physical readiness rather than external pressure, stating, “This is not a game, this is not Football Manager.” He also explained that some new signings require more time to adapt as they did not complete full pre-season training.
Jakirović highlighted Hull's unique tactical approach, which focuses on rapid transitions. Despite averaging only 30 to 35 percent possession, the team is noted for being one of the fastest in the league at moving the ball forward. He expressed pride in his journey from academy coaching to the Premier League and remains determined to progress despite recent setbacks.
