Osijek Cultural Center cancels Sergej Trifunović performance

The performance of the play ‘Ljudi odozgo’ featuring Serbian actor Sergej Trifunović has been canceled in Osijek, Croatia. The event was scheduled to take place at the Osijek Cultural Center on September 8 and 9.

The cancellation follows public calls for a boycott. Critics and veterans' associations cited Trifunović’s past controversial statements regarding Croatian institutions and police as reasons for the protest. Anto Đapić, Chairman of the Governing Board of the Osijek Cultural Center, described the guest appearance as ‘absolutely unacceptable’ and noted that the board had no prior knowledge of the venue rental.

The Cultural Center stated that it was not the organizer or client of the performance but merely the venue provider. Following discussions with the external organizer and in response to public sensitivity, the decision was made to cancel the visit. Director Patrik Lazić criticized the cancellation, describing it as a ‘primitive and childish reaction’ to controversial views.

Ticket holders will receive automatic refunds within a month of the scheduled event date.
