Sergey Brin increases influence over Google Gemini development

Google co-founder Sergey Brin has reportedly increased his direct involvement in the technical and strategic development of Gemini, the company’s flagship AI model. Although he no longer holds an official executive role, Brin is exerting significant informal influence during a period of reorganization within Google DeepMind.

According to reports, Brin is operating out of a makeshift decision-making hub at Google’s Mountain View headquarters. This informal setup, which includes senior DeepMind vice-president Koray Kavukcuoglu and is frequently visited by CEO Sundar Pichai, aims to accelerate decision-making and reduce internal friction. The goal is to manage Gemini with the agility of a startup to better compete against rival American and Chinese AI laboratories.
