Sergey Lavrov accuses Germany of ignoring Navalny medical data requests

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has accused Germany of ignoring Russian requests for medical analyses and treatment details regarding Alexei Navalny. Speaking at the 4th International Dialogue Forum on Combating Disinformation in Moscow, Lavrov stated that Russia has reiterated its demand to both Germany and the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) to provide information concerning the 2020 analyses and the subsequent treatment process in Berlin.

Lavrov noted that while Russia permitted Navalny’s transfer to Berlin in 2020 following his illness in Omsk, the Russian authorities' transparency has not been recognized internationally. He claimed that “a complete silence prevails” regarding Russia’s requests, suggesting that anti-Russian rhetoric is being escalated while honest dialogue is avoided.

The dispute stems from the August 2020 incident where Navalny fell ill on a flight from Tomsk. While Russian doctors in Omsk initially diagnosed a metabolic disorder caused by blood sugar fluctuations and reported no toxins in his samples, the German government later alleged he had been poisoned with a ‘Novichok’ group chemical agent. The Russian Foreign Ministry has maintained that the incident was a planned provocation intended to discredit Russia and pressure the nation through Western influence.
