Sergio Agüero to join Independiente opposition list

Former footballer Sergio ‘Kun’ Agüero is set to join the opposition political movement at Independiente ahead of the club's December elections. Luciano Nakis, a presidential candidate for the ‘Lista Roja’, confirmed that Agüero, a former youth academy player and club icon, will support the project and likely serve on the Board of Directors.

The announcement has sparked tension, with banners appearing near the Libertadores de América stadium criticizing Nakis and Agüero, specifically regarding Sports Public Limited Companies (SAD). Nakis has dismissed these criticisms, stating he is undeterred by attempts to damage his reputation.

Other notable figures are also entering the electoral fray. Former tennis player Gastón Gaudio has expressed interest in participating in the club's institutional life and is reportedly in talks with various groups, including those linked to Rodrigo Gadano. Meanwhile, the current president, Néstor Grindetti, is seeking reelection, focusing on the club's economic recovery and sporting performance.
