Sergio Bitar to launch historical book in Iquique

Former Chilean minister and senator Sergio Bitar will launch his new book, “Ocho presidentes y un dictador: Chile 1966-2026,” in Iquique on Thursday, October 29. The event will take place at the Museo Regional.

The work, published by Editorial Catalonia, provides a historical analysis of Chile through Bitar’s personal experiences as a political figure. His perspective spans several decades of Chilean history, including the presidency of Salvador Allende, the military dictatorship, his time as a political prisoner on Isla Dawson, his exile, and the subsequent democratic reconstruction.

Bitar, who previously represented the Tarapacá region as a senator, noted the importance of launching the book in Iquique. The presentation will include Senator Vlado Mirosevic, former cultural official Laura Díaz, and Iquique councilwoman Roxana Vigueras.
