Sergio Iraeta requests applause at Buenos Aires Grain Exchange event

Sergio Iraeta, Argentina’s Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries, requested applause from an audience during a presentation by the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange (Bolsa de Cereales de Buenos Aires) regarding production projections for the 2026/2027 campaign. Iraeta stated that the lack of recognition for government agricultural achievements was “desperate” (desesperante) if not met with applause.

During the event, Iraeta emphasized that the government's agenda aligns “exactly” with the interests of producers, exporters, and grain collectors. He specifically highlighted the reduction of export duties (retenciones) as a key positive signal for the upcoming agricultural season.

Ricardo Marra, president of the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange, noted that while the reduction in export duties is a positive step, the sector continues to advocate for the progressive elimination of these taxes. Marra also stressed the need for improvements in competitiveness, infrastructure, logistics, financing, and regulatory simplification to support investment and market access.
