Sergio Jadue cleared in Chile as court declares case prescribed

On 28 July 2026 Chile’s 13th Guarantee Court in Santiago ruled that the criminal action against former ANFP chief Sergio Jadue had prescribed, bringing an end to the investigation into alleged misappropriation of funds and tax offenses. The court rejected the prosecution’s claim that the prescription period should start from the 2017 extradition request to the United States, finding that more than ten years had passed without progress, which triggered automatic prescription under Chilean law. The decision also granted a definitive dismissal for Jadue’s former associate Mauricio Etcheverry.
