Sergio Lapegüe alerts public to WhatsApp impersonation scam

Argentine journalist Sergio Lapegüe has publicly denounced an attempt to defraud him via WhatsApp. The scam involved an individual impersonating his daughter, Micaela Lapegüe, by using her profile photograph and description to gain trust.

The perpetrator sent a message claiming that Micaela’s phone had broken and that she would be using a new number temporarily. Lapegüe, along with his wife Silvia ‘Bochi’ Todaro, shared the incident on social media to warn others about this recurring method of identity theft and digital fraud.

Lapegüe noted that this was the second time an individual had attempted to use his daughter’s identity in this manner. He successfully identified the deception and blocked the contact, preventing the potential theft of personal data or banking information.
